Fender are extremely well known within the guitar universe for their impressive range of electric guitars. That being said, they also offer up an equally impressive range of acoustics too. The Fender FA-235E, the guitar we’re looking at today, is one of lesser expensive electro acoustic guitars Fender offer, bringing with it all the ingenuity and craftsmanship the global brand is renowned for.
Like all Fender guitars, the FA-235E is made to the same incredibly high standards that we’ve come to expect from this guitar powerhouse. Its body is an expertly constructed blend of mahogany (sides and back) and striped Ebony (top), giving this guitar a natural look that is, simply put, stunning.
The FA-235E is uniquely pleasing, offering a back-to-nature style that works extremely well with the rest of guitar and its hardware. The entire body is finished with a laminated layer which not only provides extra durability against playing and extreme temperatures, but also gives the natural wood a sleek finish that screams premium.
The striped Ebony top not only brings aesthetic appeal to the table, it also comes with a strong sound that is defined by its dark tone, prominent bass, and excellent clarity.
Furthermore, the Mahogany back and sides help to create a warm undertone that is both resonant and punchy – perfect for any number of playing styles.
Fender has gone with the classic concert body shape for the FA-235E electro acoustic, providing a comfortable playing shape that is great for almost any scenario.
Unlike other guitar shapes, the concert body is slightly more compact than others you might be used to. Whilst this might sound unappealing, it actually makes playing more difficult riffs a whole lot easier – even more so if you’re prone to crazy stage antics.
Accompanying the Ebony top we find a Mahogany neck capped with a 20-fret Walnut fretboard, both of which add their own unique characteristic style to the sound of this guitar. Finally, along the fretboard lies well-finished pearloid “keystone” designed inlays that work nicely with the rest of this guitar’s aesthetic.
To help take this guitar from the living room to the stage, Fender have equipped it with a Fishman preamp and built-in tuner. Alongside this, users will find both bass and treble controls, enabling you to custom-tune the sound to your exact tonal specifications. The built-in tuner also features its own back-light, allowing players to tune on stage no matter how dark things get.
At the helm, players find a sleek 3+3 headstock that plays host to six open-back geared tuning machines. Aesthetically, they work extremely well with FA-235E’s stylish aesthetic, providing a polished and vintage look that never gets old. You’ll also find Graph Tech TUSQ nuts which help to deliver optimum frequencies and tonal response. A Walnut Viking style bridge sits at the base of the FA-235E to complete the look, offering a tight vibrational transfer from the strings to the Ebony top.
Overall, an extremely attractive and resonant guitar that provides ample sound quality for players on a budget.
