Product Description
The EHX Bass Big Muff lets you rip and rumble with a full fuzz tone and no low-end loss. Inspired by the mythical bass response of the Black Russian Big Muffs of the 90’s, the distortion of the Bass Big Muff hits like a ton of bricks, sludgy mortor and all. The classic three-knob design of Volume, Tone, and Sustain make for familiar control over the fuzz circuit. A Dry/Bass Boost switch either mixes you dry signal with the fuzz tone or reintroduces more low frequencies into the fuzz circuit, which is useful when the Tone knob is set high. A seperate Dry output allows for two amps sets for increased setup versatility.
From the manufacturer
Bass Big Muff Pi Distortion/Sustainer
The Prodigy reborn with underworld instincts comes to life wielding the drive of the original classic Big Muff Pi and the earthy support of a bass tailored design with no loss of low end. This is the pedal that bass players who loved the Big Muff sound have been waiting for.

---|---|---|---|
Volume knobThe volume knob sets the output level of the distortion. When the toggle switch is set to DRY, the volume knob has no effect on the output level of your original bass. |
Tone knobProvides a range of sounds from high treble to deep bass. The overall tone filter frequencies were carefully chosen to enhance your bass guitar. |
Sustain knobAs in the original Big Muff Pi, adjusts the amount of sustain and distortion. |
Bass boost / norm / dry toggle switchThis is a 3 position toggle switch that allows you to choose three distinctly different sounds. In Bass Boost mode, the top position, a bass frequency boost is added to the distortion. It is most effective when the Tone knob is set to the upper or treble half of its rotation. In Norm mode, the middle position, you have the pure tone of the classic Big Muff Pi. In Dry mode, the bottom position, the original dry signal from your instrument is mixed with the output of the distortion circuit. The level of the Dry signal is constant and will not change as you turn the Volume knob up or down. This allows you to set the level of the distortion effect against your dry signal. |

The Big Muff for bass gives you so many options and possibilities that I actually found myself turning knobs crazy. There is a switch that gives you 3 options Dry, Normal and Bass Boost. Personally I loved the Dry option with the Volume Knob at 9, the Tone and Sustain knobs at 12.
Later I tried it along with the tremendous and underrated THE MOLE bass booster...and man....the house this time actually moved a couple of inches to the left....(The wife wasn't that happy at all ;-)
All I can tell that if you are looking for a GREAT bass fuzz with a ton of conbinations and sounds....well stop your search...the EHX Bass Big Muff it's the next BIG THING.
....if you need a little more substance to make up your mind about this excellent effect let me tell you this: It felt at some moment that Cliff Burton's Ghost was in the house.....what a cool feeling!!!!
Cheers...
PD. REVIEWING AN EFFECT PEDAL WITH WORDS IT'S WEIRD AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.
With a more durable case, a red "switched on" signal light, and tons of frequency control...they have finally made the perfect bass distortion pedal. I used it last night at the Parish in Austin, TX to great effect. Bloody brilliant pedal. It doesn't get any better than this.
I play guitar and bass and this pedal sounds great with both, this is the best you can get at this price.
two very small complaints;
one the lack of suggested settings in the manual. i've always been fond of using a suggested starting point as a jumping off point. find a "preset" that i like and tweak it to exactly my liking. alot of manuals come with this and i find a vast majority of the settings to be very good, darn close to what i'm looking for with that pedal. with this pedal i had to head over to talkbass and search for other player's settings. a very minor annoyance but an annoyance none the less.
second complaint is how much it hots up my signal. this wouldnt be a big deal if i was using it as an always on type pedal, but i'm using it to accent certain parts of songs and i have to play a balancing act of it still giving me the dirt i'm looking for without being too loud and potentially spiking the sound guys board. this issue seems to be common with dirt pedals so maybe i'm doing something wrong.
anyway for the price this pedal should be on any bass players board, well worth the very minor complaints i have.
The sustain knob cranked up is pretty much guaranteed to give you really intense distortion that makes any bass guitar sound gnarly.
I like to use the "dry" setting because it mixes my clean bass signal with the distorted one, which adds a little bit of definition. This is important when you're playing with a distorted tone, because often distortion can turn fast bass-playing into a muddy mess.
My only complaint would be that the "dry" setting only allows you to control the volume of the distorted signal - the clean signal runs through at its original volume, unmodified. So if you're going to switch between this pedal on dry and a clean setup, you'll need either a limiter or a clean boost pedal to make up for the volume change when the pedal is off.
the pedal is great. it sounds great. very versatile and rugged. but the bundle is really nice too. you need patch cables and you can always use another 10' cable and picks. so why not get it in one place for the same price.
i'd shop here again. they know what you want.
